3:24 PM Hello HELLO HELLOOOO everybodeh! Are you all recovered from sailing camp already? Anyway, this is just to inform you that I have brought Captain up-to-date on blog activities. She thinks that the shout out box is a wonderful idea. We get anonymous 'feedback' that some people are just to shy to lay a claim to, and we also get well reasoned, well formulated, well thought out clarification of this feedback from oh-so intelligent people like meiqing (WHY ARE YOU HERE AND NOT STUDYING? XD). On a more serious note, I have debated long and hard over whether to respond to the unhappy feedback of the individual who calls herself 'UNFAIR' (ironically fitting that she should name herself thus). In the end, I feel that I should, for a number of reasons: 1) To show support for the elected leaders 2) To use this opportunity to remind all KCGG of some Guiding fundamentals 3) To to provide our non-KCGG/non-GG visitors to our humble website a little information on our Guiding fundamentals 4) To ensure that everything is above-board, that all feedback/malicious commentary/accusation/slander is openly dealt with I think that if we all kept our Guiding fundamentals in our heart, we would not encounter so unpleasant an exchange as that with the individual 'UNFAIR'. Let's remind ourselves what some of our Guide Laws are: #3: A Guide is polite, considerate and respects her elders - If you are angry with a decision the leaders have (supposedly) made, please do voice your opinion. However, civil means would be very much appreciated. - When a fellow Guide has been given a leadership position, she is considered an 'elder'. Please respect her rank, regardless of personal feeling. - Even when we encounter an individual who is less than polite, considerate or respectful, please try to ensure that your own response reflects the Guide Law. #4: A Guide is friendly and a sister to all Guides - I realise that it is hard to practice all the time. Certain personalities just clash, and there are times when this Law seems almost impossible to follow. That does not mean we abandon trying altogether. - I believe malicious comments posted on a shout box is not a show of friendliness. - Neither are angry responses to the indivual 'UNFAIR''s comments, although I understand the desire to leap to the defense of a friend. It just adds fuel to the fire. #7: A Guide has courage and is cheerful in all difficulties Courage: State your opinion. Be brave enough to lay claim to it. Leave a name. I would dearly like to know who I am communicating with. Who are you, 'UNFAIR', 'dots', '...' and 'secret'? Cheerfulness: I admire Melissa's ability to remain cheerful, even though I am sure she is not unaffected by the undeserved venom of the hostile individual. #10: A Guide is self-disciplined in what she thinks, says and does - In order not to unnecessarily hurt others, and in order not to hurt yourself. - If we practice this, I am sure we would have no shame in putting a name to our comments in order to identify ourselves. I hope in future we will be responsible shout box posters and leave an easily identifiable name to our comments. I glad that most of us are mature enough not to take malicious 'feedback' to heart, and to ignore a single bitter individual's immature need to destroy others in order to lower everyone to her level. I am also glad that most of us do not allow ourselves to be swayed by her words and reply equally destructively in our anger. I hope that all of us can learn to forgive others' un-Guide-like behaviour. Even the best of us inadvertedly slip. It is always easier to destroy than it is to build up. It is always easier to give in to our immaturity than it is to grow up. -------------------------- FAVOURTISM While I can very clearly debunk this myth regarding leaders appointing people because of favourtism, I will not do so here and now, even though my instinct tells me to leap to the defense of the transparency of our elections process. Anonymous 'feedback' does not deserve an answer. Should the individual UNFAIR desire clarification regarding her discontent, identification is required before any explanation. I have saved a reply to her accusation as a draft, ready to be published online as soon as I can face the accuser. Leaders, you are free to log on and read it if you are curious, since her accusation sullies your integrity. -------------------------- This is the first occurence of unpleasantness and slander on this blog. I hope it is the last. In future, should there be any discontent, please feel free to quietly raise it with leaders. We don't bite. If you are too 'shy' to raise it with us face to face, the write us a letter lah! And show us! OK, I am hungry. I think I should go eat chocolate now. DARK CHOCOLATE YUM YUM HERE I COME! Oh, I better leave a name since I just told you all to right! Your wonderful YAL, CHING. chocolateeeeee.... |
